How DealzScan Works

DealzScan evaluates available price, discount, freshness and comparison data to help you decide whether a deal is worth your attention. Here's the actual process, step by step.

1. Merchant and product data

We continuously pull listing data from retailers — currently Amazon, with Best Buy, Walmart, and a set of independent Shopify stores in the pipeline — including price, original price, product title, category, and (where the retailer provides it) rating and review count.

2. Identifying a potential deal

Not every listing is treated as a "deal." Listings are filtered for a genuine discount off the retailer's own stated price before anything else happens — a normal, non-discounted listing doesn't make it into the pipeline.

3. Evaluating price, discount, and context

For each candidate deal, DealzScan looks at the discount percentage, the dollar amount saved, and how much price history we've observed for that specific listing so far. We track a deal's price over time from the point we first see it — the depth of that price context depends on how long we've been observing that particular listing, so a deal we've tracked for months carries more price context than one we saw for the first time yesterday.

4. Deal Score

Each deal gets a Deal Score built from discount percentage, dollar savings, the retailer's track record, and popularity signals (rating and review count, when available). The score is calculated the same way for every deal regardless of retailer or affiliate program — see our affiliate disclosure for how we keep it that way. Deal Score is a relative signal for comparing deals against each other, not a certification that a price is objectively the best it will ever be. Full breakdown of the factors involved (and what doesn't affect it) on the Deal Score methodology page.

5. Freshness and merchant information

Every deal shows which retailer it's from and an Active/Inactive status, so you can see whether it's still current. We do not currently claim a deal is at a "historical low" or "all-time low" price — that kind of claim requires enough accumulated price history to back it up reliably, and for many listings we simply haven't tracked them long enough yet. Instead, what you see reflects the price and discount data available to us at the time.

6. Your decision

DealzScan doesn't complete the purchase for you. Once you've compared deals and checked the details, the "Check price →" link takes you to the retailer's own site to confirm current price, availability, and shipping before you buy — prices and availability can change after we last checked.
